Incorporated in February 2002, Asset Reconstruction Company (India) Limited is an asset reconstruction company. It acquires stressed assets (non-performing loans or bad loans) from banks and financial institutions and implements resolution strategies to maximize recovery and enhance the value of such assets. The company received its certificate of registration from the Reserve Bank of India in August 2003 to commence securitization and asset reconstruction operations and is recognized as the first ARC established in India.

The company operates across three main business verticals: corporate loans, other loans, and retail loans. It acquires both single-credit and portfolio-based stressed assets—whether secured or unsecured—and employs various strategies such as resolution, restructuring, enforcement, settlement, and collection, depending on the nature of the assets. Its revenue is generated through fees and investment income. The company has established relationships with numerous banks, financial institutions, NBFCs, and housing finance companies, which facilitate its stressed asset acquisition business. It is focused on expanding its presence in the retail loan segment and utilizes legal mechanisms, collection infrastructure, and data analytics to assist in asset resolution and recovery.
